ABOUT RELIEVER
Reliever is the back office for youth sports. Backed and co-founded by Rally Ventures, we are building a purpose-built financial operating system for the volunteer-run nonprofit associations that power community sports across America - organizations that move hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars a year through dues, fundraisers, sponsorships, and charitable gambling, all managed by volunteers on nights and weekends.
These associations carry real financial complexity, with dozens of team bank accounts, contractor payments, Form 990 and UBIT obligations, state gambling compliance, and board-level fiduciary duty, but they are too small to afford professional financial staff. The tools they use today were never designed for them: spreadsheets, personal QuickBooks files, email chains, and paper checks. Reliever replaces that patchwork with one platform that combines modern software, embedded banking, and professional accounting services - so every board can prove every dollar reached the kids.
We are a funded, pre-seed-stage company launching with anchor design partners in the Minnesota hockey market in the second half of 2026. You would join as one of the first hires on the founding team, working directly with the CEO and leadership.
This is a hybrid role based in the Twin Cities metro, working from our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. Candidates must currently reside in, or be relocating to, the Twin Cities metro area.
THE ROLE
This is not a traditional staff accountant seat at a firm. You will be the credentialed professional at the center of Reliever’s service delivery and will be personally delivering accounting, bookkeeping, audit-readiness, and tax preparation and filing to our youth sports association clients. Just as importantly, you will help us reimagine what the back office for youth sports should look like: your judgment, your workflows, and your treasurer’s instincts will be built directly into the product.
The ideal candidate has lived both sides of this problem, as a practicing CPA and as a treasurer or board officer of a youth sports organization. You know what the monthly close feels like at 11pm on a school night, and you want to fix it for everyone.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Client delivery
-
Own monthly bookkeeping, reconciliation, and financial reporting for a portfolio of youth sports association clients, including organization and team-level accounts
-
Prepare and file federal and state returns for nonprofit clients — Form 990, 990-EZ, and 990-T (UBIT) — and manage the full contractor lifecycle from W-9 collection through 1099 filing
-
Support state compliance obligations, including charitable gambling reporting and sales tax filings
-
Prepare clients for board-directed and state-mandated audits with clean workpapers, documentation, and internal controls, working alongside independent audit firms (Reliever prepares books; we do not audit them)
-
Deliver board-ready monthly treasurer’s reports and advise volunteer boards on budgets, internal controls, and fiduciary best practices
Building the future of the back office
-
Work with product and engineering to encode accounting workflows, controls, and compliance logic into the Reliever platform — turning your expertise into software that simplifies and automates workflows using AI
-
Define the service playbooks, chart-of-accounts standards, and close processes that will let Reliever serve hundreds of associations
-
Sit in on design-partner sessions with real treasurers; translate their pain into product requirements
-
Help shape pricing, packaging, and the professional-services roadmap as an early voice on the founding team
WHAT YOU BRING
-
Active, registered CPA license in good standing (Minnesota licensure or ability to obtain promptly)
-
Hands-on experience delivering bookkeeping, accounting, tax preparation and filing, and audit-prep support. Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
-
Direct experience as a treasurer or financially responsible board officer of a youth sports organization — you have lived this customer’s reality
-
A genuine passion for sports and community organizations that make them possible
-
A builder’s mindset: strong innovator and problem solver, energized by ambiguity, comfortable creating processes rather than inheriting them
-
Comfort in an early-stage, entrepreneurial environment — with the stability of secured venture funding behind it
-
Based in the Twin Cities metro and able to work in a hybrid setting across our Minneapolis and Stillwater offices
NICE TO HAVE
-
Experience with Form 990-T / UBIT positions, Minnesota Gambling Control Board reporting, or multi-account nonprofit environments
-
Familiarity with QuickBooks Online and modern fintech / accounting automation tools
-
Experience serving or advising volunteer-run organizations, associations, or clubs
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
-
Founding-team seat at a venture-backed company co-founded with Rally Ventures — your fingerprints on the product, the service, and the company itself
-
Your work compounds: every process you design gets encoded into software that serves the next hundred associations
-
A mission that matters in your own community — giving volunteers their nights and weekends back and protecting the money families entrust to youth sports
