Position: Sr./Staff Battery Equipment Engineer

Reports To: CTO

Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost liquid-phase nano-coating addresses critical electrode-surface degradation issues and enables batteries with a Silicon-dominant anode that have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Our Si anode material is 50% the cost of graphite and 100% domestically sourced. We strive to transform the global automotive market by enabling low-cost and long-range EVs as a first step towards net-zero sustainability in the near future.

Position: We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Equipment Design Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and development of our cell manufacturing line. This candidate will provide equipment expertise in defining specifications, tool design, and line commissioning at Coreshell. This individual needs to have an in-depth understanding of mechanical design principles and the capability of bringing up prototyping equipment from scratch with a quality driven design mindset. This is a crucial role to the company’s success as the manufacturing line the candidate rolls out will be utilized to fulfill customer deliveries.

  • Define specifications to ensure equipment performs reliably and efficiently.
  • Drive the process of design review, FAT, commissioning, SAT, ramp-up, and production.
  • Collaborate with external and internal cross-functional teams to facilitate equipment design and operations.
  • Validate equipment readiness through data-driven processes.
  • Develop preventive maintenance processes and train engineers and technicians on equipment operations.
  • Improve OEE to ensure on time and high quality cell deliveries.
  • Lead PFMEA/DFMEA process to continuously improve equipment performance and functionality.
  • Work with Process Engineers to develop process controls for equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to troubleshoot and improve the equipment via PLC, HMI, and other software optimizations.
  • Prototype and test new equipment to verify functionality and performance with the goal of introducing them into the cell manufacturing line.

Required experience:

  • Lithium-ion cell (Roll-to-Roll, assembly process, formation) automation line commissioning experience is a must.
  • Experience in production equipment installation and validation is a must.
  • Mechanical design experience from concept to production.
  • Experience in CAD (Solidworks, Catia) is a must and FEA analysis is a plus.
  • Deep material understanding regarding base, surface coating, and heat treatment selection for components.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance control is a must.
  • In-line metrology (Vision, beta ray, laser sensor, etc) bring-up experience is a plus.
  • PLC (Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens, Allen Bradley) experience is a plus.
  • Experience in statistical analysis (Python, JMP, Minitab, MySQL) is a plus.

Required qualifications:

  • A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering OR experience in a similarly relevant field with 5+ years of industrial experience.
  • Ability to travel internationally to vendor sites.
